Profile Of Lawyer Ewan Sherriff
Born in Forfar, Scotland in January 1968 Ewan Sherriff was the first born son to his parents, John and Barbara. He has one younger brother Bryan and no sisters. The early years of his life saw travel through his father's work to Dunfermline in Fife, Scotland for two years, and then on to Selkirk in the Borders of Scotland in 1973, before returning north to Dundee (Broughty Ferry) in 1976. Ewan attended Forthill Primary school in Broughty Ferry before leaving to join renowned secondary school, The High School of Dundee in 1980. Mr Sherriff left school at the end of fifth year in 1985 to go to University to study Law and completed his honours course there graduating in 1989 before also studying the Diploma in Legal Practice (compulsory to practice law in Scotland) obtaining that one year later in 1990.Throughout his school and University years Ewan Sherriff was a keen sportsman, playing football (soccer), golf, curling and swimming together with rugby and athletics at secondary school all to a representative level.
Upon completion of University education, Ewan Sherriff moved to Edinburgh, commencing as a graduate with Alex Morison & Co in September 1990 until the end of August 1992 completing seats in Trusts, Residential Property, Litigation and Commercial Property. Having long held an interest in real estate Sherriff decided to specialise in the area of Commercial Property joining Semple Fraser Haniford DiCiacca upon completion of his period as a graduate. Ewan worked in Glasgow for a year until May 1993 before being attracted back to Edinburgh to work for David Cockburn of Archibald Campbell & Harley a renowned expert and market commentator.
After eight very happy and rewarding years there becoming the youngest partner appointed by the firm Mr Sherriff was invited to continue his career at UK wide legal service provider firm Shepherd and Wedderburn. Ewan Sherriff was a partner there between 2001 and 2004 increasing his exposure in the investment and development fields, and increasing client following greatly before being invited to head up a new real estate function at Dickson Minto (niche Corporate and Private Equity firm) in 2004. Whilst there Ewan created one of the best known and high profile real estate teams in the UK carrying out fantastic high profile transactions, quadrupling turnover and team size within 3 years before the market change.
At the end of 2009, having long held an interest in the Middle East, travelled there and transacted in the region Ewan decided to relocate his family to Dubai looking for a fresh challenge and a better way of life, believing that the outdoor and sporting facilities particularly will allow his children to develop. The Sherriff family finally moved to Dubai in April 2010 and have not looked back. The children have started at Repton School, have made some great new friends and thoroughly enjoy every part of life Dubai. The opportunities afforded to them have not disappointed and the move has proved a great success.
Ewan Sherriff joined specialist UAE law firm Davidson & Co where he has worked as a partner. He has enjoyed greatly learning a new legal system, tackling head on different problems and cultures and has embraced the lifestyle and culture. Davidson & Co are market leading in being a specialist UAE firm with western lawyers also containing in house Emirati counsel, a model which has allowed them to increase market share.
Having long aspired to the North American lifestyle and to be more of a principal decision maker rather than a service provider Ewan Sherriff believes that the time is right for him now to pursue a career in a financial institution. His ambition to gain further and differing market experiences remains strong.
